Ever been intrigued by the flight of the golf ball or even by the sound of the impact between the club and the ball? The proverbial fascination of how one is able to hit such a small ball with an equally small club-head will always remain an amazement to golf wannabes, like myself. No amount of self-taught or endless air balls and digging of the ground as if looking for treasure will ever help solve the mystery.
But to derive the divine satisfaction and joy being able to hit the ball frequently enough to experience the thrill of flight, one must have attained a certain level of proficiency. Like all games, Ronaldo would never have been able to swerve the ball so effortlessly over the defenders if not for his endless hours of tireless training. The magic portion that makes Ronaldo such an accurate executioner of the ball is not the hours of training on the field, rather, it is the basic foundation that he has finally grasped through his years of playing and doing the same thing right.

When executing a greenside bunker shot, remember to open the club face. Another point to note is the ball will go where the sand goes, which is along your swing path regardless of where your face is aimed. The more you open the club face, the more the club will bounce. You can now hit down into the sand behind the ball without fear that the club will dig. |

Take 5 balls and stick tees into the ground 20, 30, 40 and 50 feet from a hole. Aim to putt five balls in a row from each tee to within 4 feet of the hole. Do mix up the distance to ensure you do not constantly increase your stroke. (30, 20, 40 and 50) Remember, you can’t move on to the next distance unless you get all 5 balls within 4 feet of the hole. |

When pitching, besides having soft hands and great technique, you need to factor in the speed the green and how much does your ball usually roll. The roll is usually dependant on your ball flight. The biggest mistake is to aim for the hole. You will tend to over hit the ball if you do so. It is important to practice and gauge how much your ball usually rolls to gauge your landing spot. After a few practice shots, try to feel the distance and always remember to identify the landing spot |

Only when the club is hinge can we swing it down more smoothly on the downswing and through impact. Try this out with a shorter club like a pitching wedge or a nine iron. Hinge your left wrist as you start the club back and once your wrist is set, forget about it. Do not make any effort to unhinge on the down swing; the down swing’s force will do that naturally for you. |

Did you know that if you squeeze your grip too tightly, you will engage all the muscles up and down your forearms and into your shoulders? This over exertion limits one’s club head speed. Thus, do remember to relax and loosen your arms during your address. Try taking your club back a bit shorter remembering not to over swing. Here, less is definitely more. I remember some pros mentioning that your longest drives will come when you feel like you are swinging 75 percent. |
