Golf is an incredible game. Not only does it mould a person’s character and develop his/her composure, importantly, it creates opportunities for you to socialize, exercise (by walking-exercise?), enjoy the beautiful scenery, drive a buggy (10km/hr), vent your anger on the golf balls and at times- nature, to learn a game that is often deemed to be for people who uses 50 dollar notes as tissue paper (I am just kidding), and… the list goes on.
Indubitably, more and more people today are attracted to the wonderful game of golf, somewhat akin to the attraction of bees to honey. However, what stops them from venturing further are uncertainties and plaguing questions such as: - Is golf too expensive for me? Can I afford to go through the whole course without burning a hole in my pocket?
- Where do I even start? Who or where should I learn from? Is my instructor qualified?
Invariably, most people who are keen enough to go beyond just exploring the game end up asking their friends who play golf these questions. And this is only assuming that they have friends who are familiar enough with the game to offer sound advice. BUT what happens if you are unfortunate enough to be blessed without such friends? No worries, because at Justteeit (www.justteeit.com), we have developed a website that provides all information that you will need to help you kick off on your new adventure that may potentially change your life (Caution, the new discovery may be highly addictive). PC stands for Proficiency Certificate. It is used to certify that a Golfer possesses a required level of understanding and skill, etiquette and rules for the game. The PC allows the golfer to play on most golf courses. It also ensures that the golfer has the skills and knowledge to enjoy the game and exercise care and consideration for others on the course. Depending on the course rules or country club requirement, a PC may or may not be recognised. Certain golf courses in Singapore allows PC holders to play during weekdays and off peak hours. Most short public courses also allow PC holers to play as well. |

A Handicap the number of handicap strokes you would receive when playing at that particular course. It represents your potential ability on a course of standard playing difficulty.
With a Handicap, you are eligible play on all golf courses. To attain a Handicap, one must be a member of a body or golf country club, e.g. Singapore Golf Association or Keppel Club. A PC would be a rerequisite as well. Typically, after getting the membership, you have to go through a Golf Ettiquette Workshop. This will be followed by 5 games on the course. Lastly, play a courtesy round with an official who will certify your golf handicap. The above procedure may vary with different clubs. |

Golf is a social game and it cannot be learnt on your own. To pick up golf on your own simply means that you are short changing yourself by missing out on some of the wonderful benefits that you can enjoy if you learn in groups.
For one, golfing in groups can result in massive and considerable cost savings of more than 50% which can then be used otherwise for other golfing related equipments or purchases. In bad times such as these, it makes economic sense to save in areas that can be saved and one of the most obvious ways is by playing in groups.
As you learn your golf in groups, you will also learn the intrinsic value of motivating others as well as being motivated by others. This becomes an important element of golfing in groups because on a ‘bad day at the office’, and for some reasons where you have no control over the trajectory and distance of your golf balls, a kind word of motivation from your group members can help the golfer to feel more at ease and even result in improving on his/her drive.
Learning to play golf in groups is also an excellent way of male or female bonding. While you may start off as complete strangers, after 10 sessions, you may end up as close buddies and even friends for years to come.
What about the value of networking when you learn in groups? One does not need to be an Albert Einstein to figure out that networking forms the basis by which friendships can be made, honed , jelled and eventually cultivated, which comes to my very basis for playing and learning golf in groups, that, it is if anything else, an excellent springboard for meeting people and extending your reach of influence. Of course the value of learning golf cannot be undermined nor can it be underscored. It is not just merely learning a new game or a new skill, but far more important than that, it is the opportunity for you to leave an impact for the others in your group to remember you by. |
