Seletar Base Driving Range may be quite a distance for some but now with Singapore being linked by so many expressways (I lost count), distance should come across as the least of any concerns.
In fact, one reason for that and why the range gets repeatedly filled up during weekends is the very feature that makes this range so uniquely different from many others on the island. For one, the range offers a different challenge to the golfer by allowing you to tee-off on the actual ‘green’, which is as close as it gets to realism. Serious golfers therefore frequent the range to experience ‘actual’ driving which is doubly harder for a beginner (at least in my case) but it does help to improve your drive. The tee-off mats are rarely used, unless due to inclement weather where the golfers would retreat back into the sheltered bays. The ‘line’ or ‘bays’ are moved everyday so that golfers have a fresh patch of grass to drive their balls. Another plus point of this range is a decent grass patch nearby the range that allows one to practice chipping, pitching and putting, of course, at a nominal fee. As for the rental of the balls, they are comparatively lower than most comparable courses; 29 dollars for 400 balls with a 5 dollar non-refundable deposit. The range is open on Mondays to Thursdays from 3pm to 11pm, and from Tuesdays to Sundays (including public holidays) from 7 am to 11 pm respectively.
For those who must venture off for a bite after a game of golf or just to catch up with friends, there are always the ever so famous coffee shops straddling along Jalan Kayu that opens late into the early hours of the morning. | ||||||||||||||||||
