Orchid Country Club Driving Range

Orchid Country Club has the fine reputation of being one of the few
fully-automated driving ranges in Singapore. Cool isn’t it? Especially
when you amuse yourself at how the golf balls roll off the artificially
covered range into a drain along the central spine to be eventually
re-conveyed back to a main collection system. However, while I, being a
newbie at the game of golf stayed rooted and fascinated at the
technology like some ‘sua ku’s first visit to a driving range, my
colleague feels that such driving ranges lack the ‘real’ feel that
amateur and professional golfers profess to enjoy and discern.

The range is truly HUGE, and I mean HUGE. It has 50 open and 24
covered bays on the upper level, 40 members only bays and another 40
public bays respectively on the lower level. For starters, you may
choose to take up a golf program offered by Academy. While the Pro-shop
isn’t exactly what Takashimaya is, the Pan-West Pro-Shop certainly has
a fairly extensive range of golfing accessories for the golf enthusiast
to purchase their favorite golf club, or simply to enjoy the cool
air-conditioning away from the hot blazing afternoon sun. As for the
condition of the balls and the tee-off mat, I must say the management
must have in place a comprehensive program to keep them in good working
condition.

As for hunger pangs, there is always a tavern on the upper floor
that serves, to my scant knowledge, one of the cheapest eats found in
driving ranges around the island. In addition, the billards table and
the table soccer are good alternatives for those who may want to forget
their bad day at the office, or at their poor form on the driving
range. Back down at the lower level, besides a well stocked snack bar,
you can also chose to enjoy a reasonably priced full course sit down
Chinese meal at the adjacent restaurant. Before returning back to your
