Does your ball keep going right? Hooray!!! At least your ball doesn’t go all over the place, that’s a good sign! Golfers term hitting golf balls that curve to the right, a “slice”. Fortunately, we do have some remedies to cure the slice. There are a couple of factors that causes slicing. Firstly, you have an out to in swing path. Second, your club face is open through impact. What happens in an out swing is that the club head cuts across the ball promoting a clockwise spin on the ball. Coupled with an open face, the ball is launched towards the right and flies further right due to the side spin. |

Being the only connection to your body, the golf grip is one golf fundamental that golf pros monitor on a regular basis. Like what Ben Hogan wrote, “Good golf begins with a good grip”. A good grip helps you better control the position of the club face at impact, the direction the ball takes and the amount of power generated.
I used to hear beginners say, “I like holding the club in my palms, I feel more powerful leh!” Feeling more powerful is entirely different from being powerful. The key to a good golf grip is letting the fingers do the gripping. Being the more sensitive part of our hands, it gives us more feel on the club. They also allow the wrist to hinge on the up swing (storing potential energy) and unhinge on the downswing producing higher club head speed at impact. This is one of the secrets to how the pros generate power. Placing the club in our palms will limit this wrist cocking action resulting in lesser distance. |
